This machine is easy to use. It comes threaded already so you know exactly how to do it in the future. I bought it to replace a Faux Leather collar in a coat and I was successful at it. It does sew thicker fabrics. I also use different stitches and they all work pretty well, and it is easy to set up. I fixed several pieces of clothing, hems, skirts, and rips in only a couple of hours. No issues changing the thread and bobbin.

One thing new customers should be aware of is that the mechanism in the bobbin is lubed. I used a piece of paper to test the machine and the paper got small oil stains from the first stitches. I ran the paper several times to make sure the excess oil was gone. When I did my clothes, I had no issues at all.

The bobbin wind is great and fast. The machine is light and portable. It does have a reverse function that is easy to use. The light is bright enough. Adjusting the thread tension helped me to work the machine better. My setting is a 3. The machine comes fully assembled (you only need to connect it to the power source). Overall, I am happy with the price I paid for this sewing machine, and I foresee using it a lot more than just for clothing fixes.

Great Ll-Purpose Machine

This Brother machine is a workhorse. It’s a great machine, especially for the money. It’s easy to use. The stitches are perfect. Winding the bobbin is super easy. The machine is very quiet. It took me a while to learn how to use the automatic threader. An online tutorial helped me learn how to do it, and now I love it. One thing this machine doesn’t have is an auto thread cutter, which I would have preferred. Regardless, it’s a great machine and can easily top the list for the best sewing machine for quilting.

 This is a Great Machine!

I bought this as a second machine to my high-end sewing/ embroidery (new car valued) machine, and I find that although it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, I enjoy sewing on it more than the other one! It’s quiet and sturdy and very easy to use. There are some features I miss out of pure laziness but if this were the only machine I had, I wouldn’t complain at all.

My one issue is that the extension table doesn’t lock into the machine so it’s basically placed up against instead of attached. It hasn’t moved on me or been a huge issue; it’s just a small feature I wish it had. This is eventually going into a recessed sewing table so that the extension won’t be used anyway, so it’s not that big of a bother. Highly recommend.

FAQs

Is a special sewing machine needed for quilting?

No, but you might face some issues if you decide to use a regular quilting device. Regular machines are not specifically designed for quilting, so they may lack vital features for quilting.

Using quilting equipment will make your process quicker and easier as they have a larger throat space that helps in working with bulky fabric. Also, they have better stitch control, and most come with an expanded workspace table. A good quilting machine should offer adjustable speed settings and stitch control. When looking for the best sewing machine for quilting, these factors play a major role in achieving professional results.

What is the difference between a mechanical and a computerized sewing machine?

A computerized sewing machine has a built-in computer, offering automated features, a variety of stitches (50–600+), and digital controls for precision. It’s beginner-friendly but more expensive and requires professional maintenance.

A mechanical sewing machine operates with manual dials, has basic stitches (6–30), and is more durable, affordable, and easier to maintain but lacks automation.

Choose computerized for convenience and advanced features or mechanical for simplicity and reliability, then decide which one proves to be the best sewing machine for quilting.

How to pick the Best Sewing Machine for Quilting? Do I need a computerized sewing machine for quilting?

No, a computerized machine is not necessary for quilting; however, using a mechanical machine requires manual adjustments.

Digital machines are designed to make the quilt-making process easier as they come with a variety of automatic functions and offer greater precision. The machine you choose solely depends on your budget, skills, and quilting requirements.

Choosing the right sewing machine can be overwhelming, but understanding key features simplifies the process. The best sewing machine for quilting should offer a combination of durability, stitch variety, and ease of use.

Ultimately, the best sewing machine for quilting is one that meets the specific needs and skill level.
