SINGER M1150 Reviews

User Experience & Ease of Use

The Singer M1150 sewing machine is easy to use,  which makes it the best suited for beginners and occasional sewists. Its lightweight and portability allow its movement, whether for sewing classes, homework, or minor repairs. The machine also has an easy threading mechanism that makes the process straightforward. In addition, the manual handwheel provides users with needle position control, a feature particularly convenient for precise stitching. Its free-arm construction facilitates ease of use by positioning cuffs, sleeves, and other small openings at hand. Even with its small size, the M1150 shows steady performance, ensuring enjoyable sewing by sewists.

Functionality & Stitching Performance

The mechanical sewing machine has 16 built-in stitches and 45 stitch functions. For sewing home furnishings, alterations, or basic garments, the machine offers a variety of stitches. Its 4-step buttonhole feature allows users to make precise buttonholes but manual adjustments are required in comparison to single-step auto systems. Variable stitch width and length provide additional control so that stitching can be adjusted based on the type of fabric and sewing task. Although the Singer M1150 sewing machine is not heavy-duty, it works well for light to medium-weight fabrics, and so, is an excellent addition for casual sewists.

Design & Build Quality

The Singer M1150 sewing machine comes with a simple and elegant design to provide functionality and portability. It is also lightweight to store easily, yet maintains a sturdy feel when in use. The stitch selector dial is also strategically located to enable an easy change, while the foot pedal control provides smooth operation. But, as with most entry-level machines, some of the components are plastic and maybe not as durable as the metal ones on better-quality machines. But this machine will be just as good for many years with good care.

Limitations & Things to Consider

Although the Singer M1150 sewing machine is excellent for newbies, some of its features might not be enough for some. The 4-step buttonhole operation might not be as convenient as owning an automatic one-step buttonhole device. The machine also doesn’t have an automatic threader, which could be a drawback for those who want effortless threading. Since it is not built for heavy fabric use, sewists who are cutting through denim, heavy canvas, or multi-layered items might get frustrated a bit. The Singer M1150 sewing machine is still a great choice for one who wants to have a light, easy-to-use, and value-for-money sewing machine that meets a wide range of sewing needs.

Customer Review

5.0 out of 5 stars – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Be careful, this sewing thing is addicting!

My initial reason for purchasing this Singer M1150 sewing machine was to simply re-attach buttons to my dress shirts. I was looking on YouTube for tutorials and came across one that showed how to use a sewing machine to reattach buttons and the machine she was demoing was another Singer. It looked so easy I decided to check the price on Amazon and was surprised by the low cost. I mean this thing is about the cost of 2 or 3 of the shirts I buy for work.

The machine is very simple but offers some nice features like double-needle support, reverse and 6 different stitch types, and of course, a foot pedal. It is very lightweight making it very easy to set up and store. Now honestly I haven’t touched a sewing machine in over 40 years, but within 10 minutes I had the bobbin wound, the machine threaded, and was ready to go. After repairing 2 shirts, I was pretty pleased with my purchase.

Then a day later, I watched a quick tutorial on hems and then I trimmed my tablecloth down to the overhang I wanted (plus 1/2″ seam allowance), got the machine back out of the closet and within 15 minutes it was done! It now fits perfect with an exact 8″ overhang on all sides AND it looks incredible!

I’m convinced that this Singer M1150 sewing machine is the gateway drug into the sewing hobby because now I’m thinking of custom throw pillows for the living room. Maybe a laptop sleeve, (yes this machine includes a “zipper foot”). As the headline states, be careful, this is a very addicting activity!
